Well.. my cheque was received yesterday.
So was my quaterly statement, and tax bill for the previous year.
So with all of the money (except about $100) the govt is giving me to spend & stimulate the economy, I am giving straight back to the them.
I just want to go up to Mr Rudd & tell him where he can stick it.

Ok, the tax bill that you received yesterday was for tax that should have been paid for the 2008 financial year but wasn't, because you paid short.
The PAYGI statement that you received yesterday has nothing to do with the 2008 year and is pre paying tax for the 2009 year (hmm most of us do every week, fortnight, month through PAYGW)
I don't see a problem really.

I hear they are doing them by the Alphabet starting backwards, as "O" is next after the "P" in Popshuvit mine should arrive real soon. ;)

I wish I knew how they were doing it as then it would stop the millions of phone calls we are getting asking when they are arriving.
I got mine on Monday. Will go towards the deposit on a new car. graemlins/woohoo.gif

I have had clients with the surname starting with F get theirs before Z and A. I heard that it was random via postcode, that does not work either because our client's postal address for tax is our office. If that was the case, we should have got them all on the same day.

I don't see a problem really. Maybe I shoud explain a bit better.
I pay quaterly for tax on interest IRO a savings account I have.
This (as I have only just learned) is calculated by the tax office on the previous year's interest declaration with no projection for the interest for the coming year.
Yeah, the quarterly bill was for the coming yr, which I expected, but I didn't expect to pay so much on my 2008 return for the extra tax I owe.
So the money I was expecting from the govt to purchase new snowboard bindings I am giving straight back to them.
Geez... the way the tax system works here is weird.
I was caught out really badly when I first started working full time.
6 months into the financial year, I went from below the threshold they have to pay back HECS to above the threshold.
So the way it works is that instead of working the HECS for 6 months, calculates it on the full year and I had 6 months of HECS to pay back.

You can vary the quarterly rate to a lower amount if you believe the interest you will earn for the 2009 year will be lower than that earned in 2008.
The extra tax deducted for your HECS repayment works on what you are being paid weekly, fortnightly or monthly. Meaning, that the tax tables for HECS kick in at a certain amount.
When your wage went up, this should have been taken into account and the appropriate tax deducted to cover the HECS amount according to your taxable income. If calculated correctly, there should not have been a great discrepancy. :(
It appears mine has hit my bank account this morning.
It's going straight on the credit card to pay off my Japan trip.

There was an announcement to say they weren't going to say how it was happening to avoid theft of mail etc followed by a statement saying cheques and deposits would be done by random distribution within each postcode!

We have already had something similar happen yesterday.
A client rang up asking which bank account her husband's payment had been paid into. After I told her a lightbulb went off. They had separated about 6 or so months ago.
I asked our receptionist if he had rang to update details and she said no.
It means that we sent the letter to the old address (where she still is) and paid the payment into their joint account.
What she must have done is seen that a letter had come from our office to her and she opened it.

Thats true, but I got caught because when they assess you, doesn't matter if you hit that certain income amount 6 months into a financial yeah, the HECS is worked out on a 12 month basis, so I got stung for the 6 months of unpaid HECS even though I was under the income level for repayments for the first 6 months.

I heard there is NO order.
It's completely random for security purposes, designed especially for those recieving cheques in mail.
To prevent fraud activity.

When inflation goes rank in a few years time I'd imagine everyone will be moaning about that and conviently forgetting that reckless federal government spending has contributed to it.
and you all owe me $1 each.

The tax office doesn't stop deducting it unless I tell them to, even though the debt is paid off. So this year i should get a nice chunky return. Nothing like a bit of forced saving!
What nterest does the ATO pay on money it owes you. I recall that for many years they paid way better rates than the banks, and the ATO will never go under!

Dear Komrade Azz,
I think these boat people a nutz coming here. ">Last partial update, April 2008. The tax system in Russia underwent a comprehensive reform in the year 2001. This reform is designed, in principle, to ease the tax burden on individuals and companies and to simplify the classes of payments for national insurance.
Russia has a uniform rate of tax on the income of individuals. As of 2008 tax in Russia is payable at the rate of 13% for an individual on most income. (non-residents 30%). Russian residents pay 9% on dividend income. (Deduction at source). Non-residents pay 15% on dividend income. Exemptions are granted to certain income earners. The standard rate of Russia corporate tax in 2008 is 24%".
So Azz, what's rhe skiing like in Russia?
Dear Komrade Vet
I am not sure, but with those low tax rates we could build our own resort !!!!!!!!!!!
:D
We would probably secure a government grant to help as well.
