Cheap flights out of Australia has contributed to the decline in domestic tourism IMO

How's a week in Bali compare to a week at the Rosebud Caravan Park?

You just have to know a market segment and invite feedback, refine the formula and when you've got it right, people fall over themselves to book.

I run 3 hiking tours a year and all 35 spots on each always sell out within two days of me emailing the brochures. They target Gen X and older Y's, stay twin share rooms in 3½ or 4 star hotels or lodges and give the punters a choice of easy, medium or hard grade guided hikes each day. It costs me about $45 per person per day for accommodation, insurance, linen, guide costs and breakfasts.

I reckon anyone targeting a niche can do well in tourism, IF they solicit feedback and subtly adjust things in response to it. As far as I'm concerned, domestic tourism is booming. tongue.gif
