I had a automated mobile call today asking me to verify my DOB and my name, I thought it sounded a bit suss so I hung up and went into a branch today to ask if it was them. The guy from the bank told me that it was a fraudulent and they are looking into it! the number that showed up on my phone was +5555555555
Be careful!
I received something similar purporting to be from my Bank where some lass with an Aussie accent asked 'identification' questions, eg dob, to me sure I'm the real me. She even offered a phone number to call back. Well I don't trust banks.

We will never ask you things we already should know unless we have you call us and we are trying to identify you. We certainly wouldn't be cold calling you for information like this. CBA do not have overseas call centres. Ours are all based locally. If in doubt hang up. You can always visit a branch or call the number on the back of your keycard/credit card. Most banks will supply their customer service number on the back of them. Very wise of you to hang up Kaz.
In my case the 'banker' refused to tell me what it was about unless I first gave the info (which I didn't).
Chunky, as she didn't know my branch or banker's grandmother's maiden name I figured she was either a crook or from Nigeria :D

Sadly some do give this information out.
Bad people out there! Be careful.
Ask them to prove they are from the bank to start with... :D
where is my fridge magnet?...........*runs off to look*

I had a call once where they asked for DOB/name etc claiming to be CBA trying to confirm my identity, but before asking these details they rattled off details of my mortgage like how much I had left on it to pay off and how money years left to pay saying how well I'd done and how they can help my pay it off faster. Seemed kind of weird to me, never had a call like this before so ended it before giving out details but I'd be somewhat disturbed if anybody other than CBA had details of my mortgage! Do CBA do his type of thing or is it that easy for someone else to get their hands on details of my mortgage!!
They probably found your statement in a CBA garbage bin!!

so glad I don't have a CBA account anymore. Weird thing is, I had one, stopped putting my pay into it and after 3 more statements, never heard from them again! I guess the account is inactive? graemlins/big_laugh.gif

Or you owe them $1000 in fees but instead of telling you they are keeping it quiet so fees keep building up instead of you cancelling the account!

A lady in our town dropped her credit card and a gentleman (use the term lightly) picked it up and handed it to her before she even got home her card had been run upto $60,000. The limit was set at $5,000 but they over road it. This was told to me by a local police man. Apparently they have a scanner and it can read the card from some distance they then somehow override the limit. Scarey. Why don't these people put their intelligence to good.

ive had the same guy call me now like 3 times from private number asking me if im such and such, same last name slightly wrong first name then proceeds to tell me i have to confirm my date of birth so he can tell why he is calling,
the first time i said he had the wrong person, the second time i said the same, the third time i started to question him about where he was from...he gave me the run around so i hung up...10 seconds later he rings back again...
conartist-"sir why did you hang up on me?"
me-"because i dont believe you are being honest"
CA-"but sit this information i have for you is wery wery important"
me-"and whats this information about?"
CA-"i cannot tell you until you confirm who you are so please give me your date of birth..."
CLICK
Ask him to hold for 30 seconds while you trace his call to origin...

When are they going to release a punch pad through the phone line, so you can just hit a button and it punches the person on the other side?
A whistle works well.
you could do the old number where you pretend to be the policeman, answering the phone cause you have been found murdered, and ask them a lot of questions about whether they knew you, what contact they had had in the past, then tell them they are part of a police investigation because they clearly knew you (name and number anyway) and so on. they will want to end the call soon enough and not call back.

These ideas would have worked well if I was talking to a person ;)

That is a bit scary but i thought it was the sellers responsiblity to check ur authenticity and also if the company fails to stop u at 5k shouldn't it be there fault? I'm just happy i don't have one much easier just havin a savings account

Recently I started getting emails and they are claiming to be CBA. But I don't bank with CBA? lol !!!!
Wonder where they got your number from Kaz to target you? Next time you answer one, tell them you have reported them to the POLICE and they will probably get scared and try to remove you, unless it's a computer recording :D
Just leave it on and let em rack up the bill...

Maybe it's time to change banks. Since i changed from CBA I've not had one call. Used to get them all the time like KAZ.

They are taking these threats seriously but as soon as one is shut down another starts up.

A couple of options - pass the phone to a 4 year old, the caller will give up before the kid takes a breath (after 20 mins); ask the caller a series of 20 questions to identify themselves (including their banking details); get them to provide a contact number & pass it back to the bank.
The first one is much more fun. ;)

I don't get these types of calls, but I'm not with CBA. Does anyone else not with CBA get these calls?
What is CBA doing about customer info security?

Nope Pods I don't, but I do get CBA emails! I'm sure CBA are doing all they can with all the relevant authorities, hmm one day I hope I work in that kind of field, tracing stuff!

It's just caller ID, you can bluff what number you're calling from when using an overseas exchange to initiate. On Skype, I can set my calling number to those in Canada, but in AUS it just shows as Private. It also says "Snow Yeti" when I ring people in Canada on their phone smile.gif

After announcing raising interest rates by 0.1% today, maybe the CBA is looking for a friend to talk to.
Lousy bank.
