i have never seen the wind this strong on the Goldy from what I can remember. I want lightning, that would probably just make things worse though....

We have had 416mm in the last 48 hours, it hasn't rained for the last 4 hours here though.

Thats is the most we have had here in the last 17 years in 1 hit

I was up at 3.00am sweeping out water from downstairs of my house, its actually coming up through the concrete. Was sent home from work at 11.00am as at that stage there was a threat of all roads to the Redcliffe Peninsula being cut. Then the rain stopped but I hear the worst is still to come.

Thats is the most we have had here in the last 17 years in 1 hit  Seeing as a lot of that will flow into Lake Eyre, what does that mean for the ski season, a Bumper year maybe. graemlins/cold.gif

On a serious note, the water that fills Lake Eyre does come from SE Qld according to what I read last time you guys had heavy rain, this was a surprise to me that it travelled that far.

Comes from west of the Downs and from way up into the north western areas of Qld, it does travel a long way smile.gif

Just checked my rainfall records. Last time we had rain like this in SE Qld in May was 1996 when we recorded 426.5mm for the month. I need someone to check the records and tell me that 1996 also brought a bumper ski season in OZ!!!

Just found some snow depth data for 1996. 50mm in July, 2m in Aug and 2.5m in Sept!

Our street had a minor flood. My driveway has washed down to the street again and for those that know the area the road from Sumner through to Wacol has been flooded over.

sorry guys. It's my dads fault. Every time he goes up to his apartment at Broadbeach it ****es down until he leaves.

Mate's wakeboard shop had its roof cave in on the Gold Coast today.
Power only just come back on at home.
Seen more tree debris on the roads than I can ever remember.
Water has risen up to the edge of the revetment wall in the backyard.
Gotta go clean up 8 construction sites and pump out half built pool tomorrow.
What a day! Is it wrong to love these weather extremes despite the hardship they may cause some people?

(that would be a lot of mm!!) up on Tamborine Mountain behind the Gold Coast. On top of a mountain, and it floods just as bad as anywhere you can imagine!

Tamborine. That's where all the water in our backyard is currently coming from.Apparently Springbrook has had a heap as well.

Also SES were seen taking boats up to Tamborine this afternoon.

Grrr I have just had to go unblock some drains. The retaining wall behind our house is like a huge 20m long waterfall. If I had good light out there I would take a photo. it looks spectacular but its half a foot deep against the house and I hope it doesnt get any higher or we will have it inside.

The Somerset Dam Spillway is going to be active from tonight. Years since that has happened. The creek/river that leads into Pine Rivers Dam is 4m higher than normal levels at the moment.

Wouldn't surprise me if you couldn't get off the mountain by road atm.

I can guarantee there would be only one way off, but then you couldn't go anywhere after that. The road to Canungra over the back would probably work, it was totally rebuilt after the big landslide of '05. But then where...

The train driver must have been getting abused for running the train late coming home from work today. He got on the PA and said while he can appreciate the anger - with the flooded roads a lot of people including himself took 2 hours longer to get to work and with power out and roads covered he said not to take it out on the train staff, who were trying to do their best in difficult conditions. Never had that happen before to announce his fustration to the whole train.

Currently gusts to 51 knots at the seaway from the south east and the wind instruments are slightly protected by the trees at the spit so possibly stronger.

Looks like we are going to be spared more bad weather. The dams are over 70% - the highest they have been in 7 years.

Bayside SEQ on flood alert for high tide a tidal surge. We are 400m from the water so should be safe. Am going to go for a walk to have a look now.

No Legs - we still getting wet, wet, wet. It cleared for 2 hours today, enough to convince +1 we should ride to the snow expo - got wet the whole way home.

p.s met the Chunky clan at the expo today - we literally ran into each other and I recognised his +1 and kids from his trip report photos.
