I would not worry too much about those temps. 12 days till you leave? These artic blasts usually only come once or twice a year to southern BC and they usually pass in a week or two. By the time you'r there will probably be back to a fairly normal temps with -5s and -10s

Morning all,

WOW! those temps look pretty insane, Id like to catch the tail end of it just to experience what it's like, but not for the whole trip!

We didn't go up the hill today because they only had the gondola running and it was -30 to -35, but Snow Princess just came in from Skate Skiing around our front yard just as the sun came down... apart from being really slow because of the super cold snow she said it was pretty good. We have a short groomed XC loop in our yard, the owners dog kept her company smile.gif

Podlettte

slow because of cold snow? How does that work? Is it as slow as wet snow?

The view out my front door... more to come, very slow upload.

Slow as in she only has violet wax on her skis... she should have blue or green.

Cold snow is like skiing on glass crystals, it bites into the wax/base of the ski.

Cold snow bites alright, I did a core shot once in -20C temps by skiing over a little pebble sized ice/snow cookie!

A closer look, the Purcell Mountains to our left, the Rocky Mountains to our right, we are right on the Columbia River.

The ski loop is in the foreground, to the right of the BBQ seats.

Well I went up to the Gondola today, it was -42 wind chill and my eyelids were sticking everytime I went to blink. I had to take my glasses off as ice formed and froze. My nose became a frozen pipe and I had to breath through my mouth.

I was taking many photos, after about 3 minutes, I couldn't feel my finger press on the camera anymore (took gloves off). Went into warming hut for five, went out again and took more from the patio. Then downloaded and was getting up and down in the gondola to warm up.

Went into day lodge and back to work !!!!!! Not going skiing at all this week, -59 wind chills for Friday morning, and it's for real. I think those temps I posted are moderate!!!

I took about 180 photos today from top to bottom and at work, gonna go for a shower and warm up and have a look at the photos!

Photos coming soon!

I'm sick again, for the third time in a month, I hate this weather!!! I just bought some cold-fx to help boost my immune system with a bit of ginseng!

Well, I'm just about to go to bed.

Curiousity got the better of me as to what the white on the back of the front door was... It's ice graemlins/big_laugh.gif I got RedBull to take some pics before I rolled up a towel and put it across the bottom of the door.

Ice on the inside of the double glazed windows too!!!

It's nice and warm inside but I'm guessing the heating is working overtime to keep it that way.

Lucky I put new Snow Tyres on my car today, heard on the news tonight there is a shortage of them, especially in my size!!!

Current temperature check has it as -31c graemlins/snow_cool.gif

It's a polar outbreak causing the super cold temps & by the time you get over there, things will have settled down a bit.

You'll be fine.

Verkhoyansk, situated on the bank of the Yana River in the Russian republic of Yakutia, has the distinction of being the coldest place in the Northern Hemisphere. If you work on the theory that the farther north you go from the equator the colder it gets, you would expect the North Pole to be the coldest place, but Verkhoyansk, which lies some 150 miles south, gets much colder. The town first made history on January 15, 1885, when the record-breaking temperature of --90.4*F was measured there, a record that still stands, though it has come close to being broken a few times. In 1996, for example, despite global warming, a temperature of --85*F was recorded. Though Verkhoyansk competes with another town in Yakutia, Oimyakon, for the dubious privilege of being the coldest town in the world, most climatologists agree that Verkhoyansk is the winner.
i gotta go

We've got a young ringtail possum on the verandah. it's very cute looking, however it also eats all the herbs, for which I have bought some chicken wire to put over the top so it can't get to them!!!
