My son is up to do work experience in June and every idea I come up with is NO but he has none better. He's very intelligent (too smart for his own good), loves history and reading. We would love for him to be a lawyer (he's very arguementative) but he would prefer to join the army. He's only 14 and has a part time job in the bottle recyclers. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Read the book "The Pinstriped Prison" by Lisa Pryor. Might change your ideas about him going to Law smile.gif

Perhaps IT? Some Marketing?

I have a friend who was into history and reading, did a law/arts course at uni

she is now working for the goverment as a research assistant for a parliment department. (well was last time I talked to her)

With a law degree you get lots more options then just lawyer and a good reaserch assistant can get alot of monies (does not have to be a law research assistant).

Not sure where you live but might be a possibility

also what about journalisim

If he's going to be a lawyer he might as well do something fun now!!!

I worked with a theatre company as they rehe****d "Who's afraid of Virginia Wolfe".

Props, costumes, prompting. They then offered me a part time job ushering which I did well into uni and got to see all the plays for free

Get him into a theatre company that has something juicy on to let him sink his teeth into history or just appreciation of the arts (high court judges do that sort of stuff!!).

A mate of mine went to the morgue!! insane choice but it gave her huge credit points for coolness!!! smile.gif

my sister went to the Zoo for work experience and she had a ball, even the family got purks from it...ever had a baby kangaroo brought to your house and jump around? Also got to feed the bears and elephants as she made friends with one of the keepers.

I went to the police, I had a great time as well. Might be a cool thing to do for a future lawyer.

Steer him in the direction of the boys and girls in blue. At least he can see the hell we have to put up with before he goes in to bat for them and puts them back out on the streets...
