It's magic.... our "Snow Pole"... queue the music....

we have a "pole" in our loungeroom @ Dinner Plain, that magically predicts the snow.

Sorry Frog, you may be out of a job. ;)

This sounds really silly, but it works. We have been observing now for 2 seasons, and out of season as well.

Whenever it is going to snow, a few days before, a magical white film appears to come out of the pole.

For a small amount of snow,... the film appears from the top. For a larger one, it comes about half way down the pole, and for a really big BUMPER dump, it covers the entire pole. (not this year, but remember the season starter last year?)

Now we think this is the chemical used to treat the pole against white ants, and no, we don't lick it! The amazing thing is that the house is pretty much constant temp, so inside humidity isn't really the trigger. I haven't braved crawling under the house to see where the post ends up, in the ground or just under the floor...but see for yourself... here's the pic,

Nothing stupid about it tambo!!! Could be something to do with the associated barometric pressure and humidity change? Depends how exposed it is to the elements down below. What sort of timber is it? If it is a eucalypt of some sort, could be the natural oils still trapped in the timber.
Very impresive though. Who needs the snowatch ruler when you have the snowatch predictor. :D

Think it must be eucalypt, and must be exposed somewhere under the house.
also think it is probably treated with some toxic chemical like a telegraph pole.

It is quite useful for dancing around, but as for pole dancing... there would be some nasty splinters in awkward places me thinks!!! Ouch!!

It's not getting any whiter. Sorry, and in fact the white might be disappearing a bit.
We are heading off the hill soon this morning and won't be able to check the pole again till Wed.
