View Full Version : Smiggins to Blue cow

Hi All,

We decided to book a private lesson to fine tune those skills, tomorrow morning at 9:30am at blue cow. However, I'm picking my ski's up from Smiggin's at 8:30 (they went for a full tune). Is it a reasonable assumption that we would get to the top of the summit quad in time for a 9:30 lesson? I want to get there with plenty of time to spare, rather than cut it thin (because the lesson is costing a few limbs), so should we do the boring bus and tube? or will there be plenty of time (with open lifts etc) to make it in time for that 9:30 lesson?

I know when we were there a couple of weeks back, the link t-bar didn't even open until 9:15 (and it is meant to open at 8:30) Is this normal? Does it actually normally open at 8:30?

it normally opens on time - but that isn't your worry. first of all, are you sure you're lesson is at the top of the summit quad? they normally meet at the top of bluecow terminal area thing.

if it is summit it could be tight. interceptor opens at 9, the ride can be long tho, all the way to the top (almost 10 mins), bomb it down pleasant valley and rollercoaster, and up the ridge quad, if you cn get to the bottom of ridge from top of interceptor in 5-10 minutes, you will be ok! otherwise you will struggle. i don't know how fast you like to ski.

if it is at bluecow, then it is a bit easier, just head up the brumby t-bar from the bottom of pleasant valley, should be quick, unless it breaks.

Bit dodgy getting there by skis
Get skis STAT!!!
Get shuttle to Perisher STAT!!!!
Catch 9.12AM train from Perisher to Blue Cow to get you to lesson on time

I didn't think any lessons start at top of Summit chair. Ski School meeting place is top of Terminal chair straight out from Blue Cow terminal

top of terminal quad is the usual place for blue cow lessons, interceptor into pleasant valley and up brumby tbar is easy all green runs as far as i am aware.

all the skiing assumptions are made with no crowds factored in ;)
It is school holidays after all so be prepared to get some crowds somewhere

hmm I just assumed it was the top of the summit quad... Perhaps I was mistaken - I should probably find out exactly where they meet at blue cow.

First runs of the day we get down them very fast.

I'll make a call find out exactly where to meet on blue cow.

Ok, silly me, I MEANT to say the terminal quad chair, and I rang to confirm, its outside the terminal. I think that means I can get there from the Brumby T-bar at a bit of a skate. I should be able to take the link t-bar, followed by the interceptor and then the brumby t-bar. That all in all shouldnt take an hour. Have I got the order of things correct?

Perisher is huge, at thredbo you can get to almost every lift from most of the runs! Don't get me wrong, I'm liking perisher's diversity of runs.

24 what do you mean "unless it breaks"? does the brumby t-bar have problems breaking?

I reckon without queues at the link & 'ceper that will take you 15 mins max from the start of the link T to the terminal. And the the top of the brumby to the top of the BC ternminal is only about 40metres (and all downhill from memory). easy.

Yep, correct order
Only hiccup maybe Interceptor being on wind hold or iced up but if you are talking tomorrow I can't see any problems with the breeze.
I still think time could be a bit tight if things turn pear shape at any lift or if your skis aren't ready at 8.30am but then again I don't know the place thhaaattttttttt well ;)

Link T-Bar ride time guess at 2 mins
Interceptor ride time guess at 5 mins
Brumby T-Bar ride time guess at 2 mins

9 minute ride time with no ski times (or queues).
I would say it would be impossible to get from the bottom of the Link to Blue Cow terminal in less than 15 minutes

It sounds like a challenge... ;) I'm always up for a challenge :D We will gun it as fast as we can and I'll let you all know on Monday (if I remember) how long it took

Your only road block may be is the Link doesn't open on time.

17-07-2009, 01:47 PM
so we think you should be fine ;)

SM the brumby T has been known to stop constantly under heavy load. i was about to complain about it being old, but i don't think it is compared to the average age of PB lifts!

You said pick up ski's at 8.30am leasson starts at 9.30am. If that's correct then you will do it easily
Go up the Link t-bar then accross to the interceptor then up brumby t-bar should be there before 9.00am

I'll personally test it next week (without cheating) but geez, what speed are you guys sking at? driving miss daisy speed? tongue.gif

Crowds. Late unreliable opening lifts...interceptor and brumby.
All the lifts don't go bam open all the time.

The only possible way is if the high traverse is open and you skate across the top of PV.

nah you should be fine the crowds arent that bad that they would hold you up for an hour even in school hols

The crowds on link lifts 1st thing in the morning are bad.
Oh and BTW i've never seen interceptor open at 9am on the dot. 9.05...9.10...
then it takes a while to load...then it takes about 6-7 mins to get up..I reckon earliest you'll be at the top of interceptor..9.20am

I have skied to BC from perisher and got there before 9:15. but that was via the traverse from the top of the Quad, and dependant on it opening before 9am, which it was doing on weekends last year.

Especially if youre doing a lesson at terminal

i'd rather be there at 9.20 and be ready..than sweaty hot and stuffed at 9.29.

You all have me worried now... I'm thinking maybe I need the Tube :S. The lesson is costing a whooping $248 so I don't want to even be a second late.

OK and I have confirmed, interceptor opens at 9, if I'm there ready to load at 9:00 I shouldnt have a problem... right? :D

Ooh the quad, is that open the whole way? that's another option, although can you ski from link to that quad? actually that quad is always a packed line in the morning.

Quad is packed...yeah....but it opens usually prompt.
I'd go the tube.

personally, i'd still go the tube, and be nice and relaxed and ready to enjoy and learn from your lesson... smile.gif

Catch the tube. Brumby T-bar will have huge lineups, they are running interschools on Upper Rollercoaster from 8:30am.

I suppose I could duck into Smiggin's at 8:30, get my skis and drive onto perisher car park - but that's going to get us there about 8:40, are there still spots available at that time in school holidays?

Hmmm I'm still of the opinion an hour is PLENTLY to get to BC or even half an hour from the interceptor is plenty -seen as it opens at 9:00

ooooh actually I have another alternative. I put my ski boots on before I leave jindy, leave REALLY early, get dropped off at smiggins 8ish while the others drive to perisher (and get an OK park) and when I get my ski's I meet them at bottom of quad (and get bus) that way we can still ski to BC and we SHOULD make that on time.

does that plan work?

If the express isn't open to top you can always jump on tube.

Except the quad isn't scheduled to open until 9am. It *may* open earlier. Still doesn't avoid the Brumby T either, which will have long queues.

Rollercoaster isn't an option either, Ridge chair doesn't open until 9:30.

I'd still be on the tube...or even better have your lesson at Smiggs then ski over if you are intent on doing so.

Snowie Meli

ok that's the plan :D Thank you everyone for your help :D On Sunday however I will take it as a challenge to get to BC from Smiggins in 15 minutes smile.gif I'll let you know how possible it is :D

Then skate upto terminal.

I could get the lesson starting at smiggins, but I thought that because the terrain is better at BC, then it wasn't very worth while skiing green runs for the 1st chunk of the lesson.

Queues at the quad could be horrendous though

I'll stand by my 1st option, shuttle bus from Smigs, 9.12 train to the Cow to make sure you get to you lesson

But what do I know ;) graemlins/cold.gif

Why dont you get that days lesson at 12.30 instead of the 9.30 and then the remainder of the lessons at 9.30am?
That plan I think is alot less stressful...
...and just to let you know I waited about 20 mins in the line this morning for the link T-Bar! But as I find its all about timing.. yesterday only waited 5 mins!!
