Just finalising 7th trip back to Japan at the moment.

who are you? (not familiar with your username....and no haven't been to a sic since 01 in Thredbo....don't get to the mountains much at all these days, usually just a 7 night stay each year.

Must have been older sic, it wasn't Thredbo (could it be a mini sic?). It was in Jindie, I think it was at the Brumby. Used to use 'Crusty' in those days, but dropped that name in 2003.

The Frog

just checked my old login it was spelt Krusty. There have been a number of them since.

It would have been a mini, at the Brumby (& PB). I can only rember you (with skivvey), Snow Gun, & Mateoh, but there were others.

Oooh, it might have been the infamous one where Frog met Dell ;) 2000 winter at the Brumby Bar. SnowGun and Matioh where definitely there.

I was there too, with my littluns, who aren't little any more and now Frog & Dell have their own littluns!!!

Matioh is a gun snowboarder - had the privilege of taking him, Doug and another person down the Hotham extreme zone back in 2000. That was the one and only time I met him at SIC2k.

Mahtoh is a different person. Has he joined Snowatch?

Welcome to the best forum in Oz. Don't hestitate to ask questions - What we don't know will fill a book.

Glen, join a ski club for member-rate accom. Driving, skiing for a day and driving back can have obvious consequences.

Definitely go to a SW Slide. for all you know, you'll meet someone who'll share the driving, petrol etc. Besides, skiing with others is simoply more fun.

Frog, how many forumites are there now?

Hi guys, new to Snowatch. I've been reading for a while and just joined.

37yo big fella who loves going to the snow with family (wife, 7yo boy, 19mo girl).

Got addicted to skiing 2006 (late in life obviosuly) and well addicted is the right word. Don't ski as much as would like yet enough to get better each year.

Speak to you over the coming months and have a great Easter.:D

Legolas

we legs are the same! came to skiing as a family just a couple of years ago.

Be careful. Snowatch definitely makes the addiction more intense!

The addiction is already here. The wife just laughs. Can't wait until the season comes and I can try out the new gear I bought over the last few weeks.

Thanks for the welcome and see you round.

In my case it's a welcome back. I lost my old login details for Jerraman when my laptop's hard drive collapsed, so I thought it was a good opportunity to align my Snowatch and Sno-Info usernames.

As my username suggests, I'm a rugby and skiing tragic. I play for the ACT Veterans Rugby (http://www.actvetsrugby.org.au) team and my committee role is webmaster of the club's website. If any Snowatchers are in Jindy on July 24, come down to the sports ground and see us play the Jindabyne Sore Boars (the Bush Pigs veterans team) - the Sore Boars jersey sponsor is a funeral director in Cooma :big_laugh: We played the Navy Old Salts on Saturday at Canberra Stadium in the curtain raiser for the Brumbies v Cheetahs Super 14 match. Playing at Canberra Stadium was an awesome experience.

Welcome back Jerra. :D One day if my ankle ever heals I might turn up for a veterans training session.

Thanks Bear. The training is a mix of technique work (how to go into a ruck or maul safely and retain possession or turnover the ball), positional play and general fitness. It's also very social, we start with a touch footy run and than have a drink and a chat after the session. The training time and venue is on the website in the news section.

Hey itzmatty, welcome in, and hello Snowatchers,

I'm new to Snowatch also (although a few of you would have read some of my rants already), I couldn't control myself though, and skipped this thread, till now

42, like a bear (hence the name Kuma, bear in Japanese, and the Mizu is for water), being a surfer for most of my life. started snowboarding in 2000 (also a late comer) due to giving up smoking, had to have something to show for the money, that was now not spending on cigarettes, so the family went to the snow (stepping straight into another addiction) my wife and 2 daughters started skiing, but have now crossed over to the dark side, and board alongside me. my favourite haunt is Thredbo (although I could easily live in Japan). A good steak with a glass of red and a few beers are my only weaknesses.

I actually was given the link to you guys from Karen 97 and thought yippee another snow forum. Generally I've been over on ski.com.au for the last little while.

I'm a boarder, married to a boarder but with kids in ski school have thought maybe I'll give skiing a go this year as well, so I can ski with them. It's been 15 years since I've done any skiing so maybe I'll chicken out. LOL.

G'day All. First post from me. Not a huge forum user but I thought I'd say g'day.

Age 42 - been skiing for 20+ years. Mainly ski NSW resorts but have also spent a season in Austria (Kirchberg) 1991/92 and Whistler 90/91 plus a season in Thredbo (1994).

Why The Mole? I copped that nickname after a particularly snowy week at Mt Hotham (1996/7ish) where I did my best to ski every off piste run on my face, head first. Every time i popped my head from under the snow up someone yelled 'its the mole'....

Nice to meet y'all

rufus
06-08-2010, 02:39 PM
Hi all, my name is Rufus.

I am a punter, and I have a dirty little secret that must be exposed.

For years I have been lurking the forums of Snowatch, trawling like some voyeuristic peeping Tom staring in through a small window onto the lives of strangers. For years I have shared your humour and goodwill your squabbles, your triumphs and disappointments and your concern for each other. I am not proud of myself; I feel dirty and unclean, lurking in the shadows and watching people expose themselves. I have never met any of you (except for a brief chat to Sebastian last year at Thredbo) but feel in a very real and creepy way that I know you all.

The only way I can atone for my behaviour and feel clean again is by exposing myself (so to speak) to all of you. So here goes….

I am a skier from Sydney. I skied when young but then life got in the way and I didn’t take it up again until 10 years ago when I started XC skiing. I now ski only downhill at Thredbo but miss XC very much and this year if the snow is not so great will have a crack at downhill telemark.

I am a punter but in comparison to other punters I am proud of my ability. I have never skied outside Australia, only skied downhill in fresh snow about a dozen times (and then no deeper than just below my knee) and I get scared skiing through trees and around rocks. I have a lifetime of learning to do but still enjoy skiing as fast and hard as my ability and fitness allow. The experience for me however is all about the mountains, the snow and good friends. I love everything about it. The way even the small change in attitude thins the air and changes the quality of light, the beauty of the Australian bush and ranges covered in snow, the glow after a physical days skiing, sitting and laughing with friends over diner and the prospect of doing it again the next day. This is what I love.

I am 43 live in Sydney and married to a beautiful, intelligent, thoughtful and patient woman who is far too good for me. I have a gorgeous, intelligent, athletic, caring, sarcastic teenage tomboy of a daughter who is patient with her fathers feeble mind and old man ways and forever sparing with her affection in case it spoils me.

I sell expensive real estate for and to people I don’t really like and spend my working life pretending to be someone I’m not. The job chose me and not the other way around. The money is O.K but my soul yearns to be boat builder or carpenter.

I would like be known as a sailor, a hiker, a climber (or skier). I would love to hike the Appalachian Trail, climb Mt Everest, sail single handed around the world. I would love to be fitter, stop smoking, drink less, watch less TV, read more books, wake up earlier, pay more attention to my family and friends, see my mother more, remember birthdays and anniversaries, pay more attention to what I eat and stop spying on strangers lives through Snowatch.

So there, exposed (and I should think a record long introduction). That feels so much better.

Now, do your worst all!

The Frog

Hi Ozgirl,

Ahhh..... if only!!

I wouldn't hear your winging over mine anyway. I can't really see the point of extended physical exertion if you can't whinge before, during and after it!

Sorry rufus.... life gets in the way sometimes. I've only been skiing twice so far this year, luckily one of those days was last Monday!

I may get into the blog again one day but right now I think I'll be sticking with twitter and forum posts.

Know that feeling!

Great timing for last Monday! Hope I'm as lucky the first week in September.

Sorry Ozgirl,

I'm not very bright and easily confused with this sort of thing (well most things really!). Were you asking me or The Wang?

Hi! I'm feeling a little daunted following Rufus' introduction.... can't complete with that. I have come across your site by accident while looking for the ever elusive perfect ski. Xena's rental of Attraxtion vi in Big White in Jan, I was there at the same time on the same ski, but hired the new 2011 Attraxtion vii and was sorely disappointed... although it might be because I was skiing Selwyn for the first time in 20 yrs. I love the forecasts, I can remove my BOM "Snowy Mountains Region" favorite and don't need to read between the lines on the resort reports... hope the forecast for more snow prior to 3 Sept is right!

About us - I've been skiing awhile but have had a 7 year break with having kids and a hubby who didn't ski. Back to it again last year with a couple of day trips to get hubby started, first day a disaster, he wouldn't take a lession and the weather came in. The second day I dumped him in a first timer lesson so he got a proper start. Then, in Dec I buddled him and the kids (6&4 at the time) on Air Canada for two weeks at Big White. Positive - everyone had a ball and the 6yo was on blue runs before hubby, the 4yo was out of the harness and trying to race me down runs by the end of the first week. Negative - its going to cost me a fortune, my parents just laugh, now I know how they felt. Hubby and I have had a couple of day trips to Perisher before the big dump and took the kids (and parents, cause its their van on Lake Eucumbene) to Selwyn last weekend... the now 7yo said "is this it?", even with free accomodation, I don't think we will be going back.

Hi..........
I am a long time lurker but have so often wanted to join in....so here goes. Silverwitches thread for Japan 2010/2011 pushed me over the edge. I just have to post on that one! Our family are keen snowboarders (2 sons and hubby) but since we live in Perth we only get 1 or 2 trips per year. Hubby is from Switzerland and after many years of living there we just have to satify our snow thirst every now and again, but not as often as we would like!

Visiting the Snowatch site is a daily winter ritual for me....sort of makes me feel part of the action from way over here in the west! :)

Thanks for dropping by Santa.
If you come back and read this before tonight, please please please recheck your Christmas list. I've had such a bad run this year and tried ever so hard to be good even though many people around me have been naughty.
I'm staying at mums. And incase you don't have my wish on your list. It's that my Pink Princess gets to cuddle and hear her daddy tell her he loves her.
I have some very nice Cognac I'll leave out for you and I wont set any reindeer traps this year. (sorry)
