Not sure if there's been a topic on this but can't help but wonder what the heck the critics were on about. Loved it and think it's an Aussie classic. Can't figure out what the heck people are bagging it for...

because they are Aussies, and Aussies love to knock yer legs out from under you.

I loved it too Spicey! Would go back to see it again too smile.gif

I think it even goes further than being an aussie classic, I think it's a great movie regardless of it's race.

I can just see the Attenborough series on that one.

This strange little group hail from an enormous land mass in the south. They exhibit rare mating habits ("woman! where's me stubbies") and display odd thong wearing rituals...

We saw it a few days before we left and thought it was awesome.

I've told all our friends over here to make sure they see it when it comes out in Canada... pretty soon I think.

I couldn't believe how fast the movie seemed to go for how long it was...

Tall poppy syndrome for sure .
But i think the title could have been better,
without doubt chosen by an american studio boss.

I really enjoyed the movie. Very entertaining. Whilst I've heard a few comments along the lines of it being a bit too long, bit of a chick flick and not my cup of tea, I haven't come across anyone who didn't like it (and that includes a heap of country blokes who attended the premier here in Jindy). I think it's got a little something to keep just about everybody happy.

I actually thought Kidman was brilliant in it, even though she has copped some harsh criticism. My wife loved it, and something really rare... audience clapped at the end.. One to put in the cupboard when the DVD comes out...

I can't bring myself to sit through a 3hr movie. LOTR was an effort!

Podlettte

certainly didn't feel as long as LOTR to me princess, and I liked LOTR!

Maybe the length of the movie is putting people off.

Definately didn't feel as long as it is. I thought things move along at a decent pace and it doesn't really have the slower bits like LOTR that you need to focus and concentrate on in order to follow the story. I actually thought it was quite predictable, but that didn't really matter or detract from the enjoyment.

I think the original screening was going to end in tradgedy but they changed it SnoWhite and no-one new which ending was going to be used until it came out... It definately did not feel like a 3hr movie, went very fast.

Didn't even realise it was 3 hours until it was mentioned in this thread

Nice to see you around Spiceman.

Must say that I found Australia far more entertaining and amusing, but I thought The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was a much better movie. I thought the acting was great, the characters interesting and the story original and heartwarming. I enjoyed it immensely. It should also be noted that I'm the type of person who prefers to go to the theatre (whether it be a movie, a play, a musical or an opera) to be moved rather than entertained.

firstly graemlins/big_laugh.gif at Frog.

Secondly, we went to see this tonight.

I really really enjoyed it and think that anyone who hasn't enjoyed it might have missed the intent.

by "Epic" I think what Baz Lurhman meant was "Epic genre". The sinister character in Fletcher, the honest "chap" in the army captain. The Gable-esque pose on The Drover as he enters the grand ball. The sky line, the lot all sort of "Epic", but not actually setting out to be an "Epic" . Aaaaaand I'm thinking that doesn't make sense, ah meh.

I'm not a nicole fan, I think she mimics other actors, but I even found her tolerable and the storyline/journey enjoyable. I didn't mind the odd close up on Hugh either, who I've never been inclined to swoon over before.

BUT, my review on Hoyts La Premier is not quite so kind.

so...we arrive a few minutes before the film and order cheese plates drinks etc to get us through the three hours we had heard we would be "enduring". The girl tells us she will deliver and that we can pop out to order coffee and the lindt chocolate dessert selection plate later on.

Not that you need to, but when you're in La Premier you think you ought, so I popped out to order more supplies about halfway through and the whole place is shut!!!! I got us water! We'd have stocked up if we'd known!

The website says "waiting staff to serve you throughout the movie etc etc. Not that it's essentail but for my $33 ticket I was planning to have a bit of fun and luxury.

Fortunately the movie did end up keeping us all engaged and we survived without the coffee and chocolate, but...not the point...they say it's all there!!!

Time for a complaint email. For your $33 you expect to get what they advertise, especially if the girl actually said you could pop out and order your coffee and Lindt!!! :(
