View Full Version : Buller Team Challenge & Interskools
After Taxman's almost non-stop drive from Bondi and my comfortable 3 hour drive from Melbourne, Taxi & I were greeted by brilliant blue skies. The skiing was top to bottom.
Again I scored use of his Stockli XLs in the soft fluffy stuff, and ended up racing on them twice (12th and 2nd place!) next day. (Stockli Rep Richard Neville is putting together a demo day for club members so I'm looking forward to that. Guess what I want for Father's Day).
Saturday we went to the race presentations at the Whitt and dined on a Barwick Estate red, divine squid, a perfumed and tasty lamb hotpot and a great cheese platter.
Spent a day hooning around with a Frenchmen and his lady friend, and then taking him to several places, including the legendary Hoo Haa pub.
Misses Vet and Ms Vet arrived Sunday on a bus. I took advantage of a lesson voucher for Ms Vet, and the instructor from Chamonix asked her to show her style. He couldn't catch her. Suffice, she has the racing bug. In Interschools she was a credible 40-something out of a field of over 300. In the SkierX, she got a second run after jumping OVER a fallen racer, avoiding a race official and hitting a net.
Taxi has some pics
Anyway it was another great Team Challenge.

VSA Team Challenge course on Little Buller Spur.
Vet ran seriously good times against seriously good skiers.

We'd have done better if the race was handicapped, eg by blood alcohol level.

bahahahahaha
top effort too vet, did you get my text?
Sorry, I didn't see your text, Red. Technology and I don't get along.
Pauls Ski Shop's Roxy ski prize is up for grabs in the kids race this Saturday. (nice one, Paul). I can't go to the presentation, but if you're at Buller at 5pm Saturday, do you want to be deputised?
Also being awarded, courtesy of the Ski School Canteen function and Maja are these really cute things that can't be described in words - Maja is donating it to kids in the race. We've got 4, 5 and 6 year olds nearly pipping their parents: its terrifying.
What'd you think of the Japan packages for club members, including your members. I'm looking into another operator's package to Hakuba Japan and to Gulmarg, also one with a 'look see' for those, eg kids in their gap year, who want a peek into running a snow business rather than hoping to score a towie or instructor job. Also waiting on a Stockli/Kastle demo day with members discounts for demo skis. Also a scuba dive prize is upcoming compliments of the manager of the William Angliss ski resort management course that'll start next year. Also looking into clubs joining forces to halve their insurance premiums: two have thus far. Then, tomorrow the world ... and it'll be tax deductible. (And Copper Mtn is looking for budding instructors if anyone's interested for a 'gap year')Bendigo Bank are sponsoring more races - and we get a nice 8.4% too. Clubs should form an informal alliance. Yep, it was a big few days with the Team Challenge and the interschools.
Are you going up 5th/6th/7th Sept - I need a pair of Stormriders. :D

won't be heading up, so you could probably borrow them! What's your boot sole length? will be in melbs sunday night too...
Thanks, but you won't get them back tongue.gif
I'll wait for the demo day sale. (I must say I saw a fair number of interschools kids with lycra suits on them)

You might not like them... mine are only 164 tongue.gif
does george still have any in stock? i know he's taken over as the head demo centre... but he used to do stoeckli
I'd need the adult size Red, but thanks anyway. :D
Georges have looked after Lil Vet for years: and this season she scored last season's racing stocks and fischer rc4s for a bargain. Skill beats new season's graphics, imo.

couldn't agree more!
although i reckon previous seasons stormy xl graphics are better than the new ones tongue.gif
also i would demo the new ones, they are a different construction to the ones that taxy and i have and they are a bit softer... might also be worth having a look at the laser range for yourself too!
I've seen some really ugly orange rossis, and flouro yellow rc4s. What's next - 80's flouro one-pieces?

have a look at burton outerwear ;)
I was looking at the samples on the Stoekli Equipment Guide - there's some really nicely priced juniors skiis for $750 incl bindings.
For moi, what do you think about XLs or Rotors: I just want one pair to ski, race, on and off ****sted, steeps, in the US and Oz.

just had a look at the stoeckli website...
there are 2 versions of the XL
XL and XL Edition... the edition being softer which for mine would be better for OS... however the XL would be a much better ski for on piste and your racing...
My opinion fwiw is that the XL would probably be best for you having skied with you at buller knowing how fast you like to go!
My issue with the ski is you can't cruise at all, you have to ski it all the time or it will control you! In softer stuff i enjoy my fat skis more...
I'm nearing the day when Lil Vet says "Dad, can't you ski any faster?". I need all the technological help I can get.
For Father's Day, why don't you give your pa your XLs, and buy yourself some Editions with his credit card? Besides, you can always borrow his XLs;)
